What Metrics You're Actually Tracking

Let me break down what you're looking at. The analytics dashboard tracks several key metrics that tell you how your chat interfaces are doing:

Core Metrics You'll See

Total Chat Interfaces

  • This shows you how many chat interfaces you've created
  • It's a simple count, but it helps you understand your usage

Active Interfaces

  • These are your interfaces that are currently enabled and working
  • If you have 5 interfaces but only 3 are active, you'll see that here

Total Messages

  • This is the big one - it counts every single message sent and received across all your interfaces
  • It's cumulative, so it keeps growing as people use your chats

Total Sessions

  • A session is a conversation - when someone starts chatting, that's a new session
  • This tells you how many individual conversations have happened

Live Interfaces

  • These are interfaces that are not just active, but actually being used right now
  • It's a real- time metric that updates as people interact with your chats

The dashboard shows you all of these metrics at a glance, so you can quickly understand your overall performance. Each metric is displayed in a colorful card with an icon, making it easy to scan and understand your data at a glance.

Understanding Your Dashboard Layout

When you open the analytics page, you'll see a clean, organized dashboard. Let me walk you through what each section means:

The Header Section

At the top, you'll see:

  • Plan Badge: Shows your current plan (Pro, Enterprise, or Admin)
  • Live Indicator: A green dot that shows the dashboard is updating in real- time
  • Last Updated: When the data was last refreshed
  • Refresh Button: Click this to manually update your analytics

The dashboard uses cached data for super- fast loading, but you can always refresh to get the latest numbers.

Overview Cards - Your Key Metrics

Right at the top, you'll see four main cards that give you the big picture:

1. Total Interfaces

  • This is simply how many chat interfaces you've created
  • It's a helpful number to track your usage

2. Active Interfaces

  • These are interfaces that are currently enabled (not disabled)
  • If you disable an interface, it won't count here

3. Total Messages

  • Every message sent or received across all your interfaces
  • This number keeps growing as people chat
  • It's cumulative - it never resets

4. Total Sessions

  • Each conversation is a session
  • When someone starts chatting, that's a new session
  • This tells you how many individual conversations have happened

5. Live Interfaces

  • These are interfaces with activity in the last 5 minutes
  • It's a real- time indicator showing what's actively being used right now
  • Super useful for seeing immediate engagement!

Interface- by- Interface Breakdown

Below the overview cards, you'll see a detailed list of each of your chat interfaces. For each interface, you can see:

Interface Name & Slug

  • The name you gave it
  • The slug (URL identifier)
  • Whether it's active or not

Message Count

  • How many messages this specific interface has received
  • Great for comparing which interfaces are most popular

Session Count

  • How many conversations have happened on this interface
  • Helps you understand engagement levels

Last Activity

  • When someone last used this interface
  • Shows you which interfaces are still getting traffic

Live Status

  • A green indicator if there's been activity in the last 5 minutes
  • Helps you see what's happening right now

Custom Domains (if you have them)

  • Shows any verified custom domains connected to this interface
  • Clickable links to visit your interface directly

This interface list is really powerful - you can quickly see which of your chat interfaces are performing well and which might need attention.

How to Use This Data to Improve

Now that you understand what you're looking at, let's talk about how to actually use this information to make your chat interfaces better. Here's what I recommend:

Spot Your Top Performers

Look at your interface list and identify which ones have:

  • High message counts: These are getting lots of engagement
  • High session counts: People are having full conversations
  • Recent activity: Still actively being used

These are your winners! Ask yourself: What makes these interfaces successful? Can you replicate that success in other interfaces?

Find Underperformers

On the flip side, look for interfaces with:

  • Low message counts: Maybe they need better promotion
  • No recent activity: Perhaps they need updating or removal
  • Low session counts: People might not be engaging deeply

For these, consider:

  • Updating the welcome message
  • Improving the knowledge base
  • Checking if the interface is properly embedded on your site
  • Maybe it's time to retire it if it's not serving a purpose

Monitor Growth Over Time

While the dashboard shows current totals, you can track growth by:

  • Checking regularly: Note your numbers each week
  • Comparing periods: See if messages/sessions are increasing
  • Identifying trends: Are certain interfaces growing faster?

I recommend checking your analytics at least once a week. You don't need to obsess over it daily, but regular check- ins help you spot trends early.

Use the Live Indicator

That "Live" indicator is really useful! If you see an interface is live:

  • Someone is actively using it right now
  • It's a good time to test it yourself
  • You can see real- time engagement

If an interface is never live, that might be a sign it needs attention or better promotion.

Here's how I suggest you use analytics effectively:

Weekly Check- In (5 minutes)

  1. Open the analytics dashboard
  2. Look at the overview cards - are numbers growing?
  3. Scan the interface list - any surprises?
  4. Note which interfaces are performing best

Monthly Deep Dive (15 minutes)

  1. Compare this month's numbers to last month
  2. Identify your top 3 performing interfaces
  3. Identify your bottom 3 interfaces
  4. Make one improvement to an underperforming interface
  5. Document what's working well

When Making Changes

  1. Check analytics before making changes (baseline)
  2. Make your change (update interface, add knowledge base, etc.)
  3. Wait a week
  4. Check analytics again - did it improve?
  5. If yes, great! If no, try something else

Understanding Data Freshness

The analytics dashboard uses smart caching to load super fast. Here's what you need to know:

Data Updates:

  • The dashboard caches data for 5 seconds for performance
  • Click the refresh button to get the latest numbers
  • Data is calculated from your actual chat messages in real- time

What "Live" Means:

  • An interface is "live" if it had activity in the last 5 minutes
  • This updates in real- time as people use your interfaces
  • It's a great way to see immediate engagement

Common Questions I Get

"How often should I check analytics?" I recommend weekly for most users. If you're actively growing or testing, maybe 2- 3 times a week. Daily is probably overkill unless you're running a campaign.

"Why don't my numbers match exactly?" The dashboard shows aggregated data. Small differences can happen due to caching, but the numbers are accurate. If something looks way off, try refreshing.

"Can I see analytics for a specific time period?" Right now, the dashboard shows all- time totals. We're working on time- range filters - stay tuned!

"What if I have multiple interfaces?" Perfect! The dashboard shows all of them. You can see which ones are performing best and focus your efforts there.

"My interface shows 0 messages - is something wrong?" Not necessarily! It could mean:

  • The interface is new and hasn't been used yet
  • It's not properly embedded on your site
  • It's disabled
  • No one has visited it yet

Check if the interface is active and properly set up.

Enterprise Users - Special Notes

If you're on an Enterprise plan, you might see analytics for your entire team:

  • Enterprise Owners/Admins: See all team analytics
  • Enterprise Users: See analytics based on your enterprise settings
  • The dashboard aggregates data from all team members' interfaces

This is super powerful for understanding team- wide performance!

What's Next?

Now that you understand how analytics work, here's what I suggest:

  1. Go check your analytics right now - See what your numbers actually are
  2. Identify your best performer - Which interface is doing well?
  3. Pick one thing to improve - Maybe update an underperforming interface
  4. Set a reminder - Check back in a week to see if it helped

Remember, analytics are a tool to help you make better decisions. Don't get overwhelmed by the numbers - focus on one or two key metrics that matter to your business, and use those to guide your improvements.
